Green Light for Sheffield's £175m West Bar Square
A major mixed-use development in Sheffield has secured outline planning consent. Councillors in the city approved plans for the £175m West Bar Square project, which will provide 700,000 sq ft of office space and 500,000 sq ft of residential apartments, as well as a four-star hotel and retail units.
Bowmer & Kirkland will act as contractor on the scheme. The masterplan sits in Sheffield city centre and will act as a link between the city’s Cathedral Quarter and Riverside district. Site clearance works have started, with detailed planning applications for individual buildings expected to be submitted throughout this year.
How Planning partner Jon Suckley said:
“Sheffield has been through a period of significant transformation over the past 10-15 years, something which has been shaped and encouraged by the city council.
“The West Bar Square site has been identified as an area for a comprehensive mixed-use development within Sheffield’s core strategy and approval of these proposals will allow Urbo Regeneration to make further progress within the city.”
This is the second major development for Bowmer & Kirkland in Sheffield, with the firm currently on site at a £100m mixed-use scheme for New Era Development (UK). Three buildings are being constructed under the New Era scheme to provide a supermarket, retail and commercial space, offices, 392 student flats and studios and 14 private residential apartments.
