Bryson: Industry's First Certified Carbon Negative Supplier

Our aim is to become the sustainable supplier of choice for forward-thinking construction and fit-out contractors, like you. With our industry leading 3P sustainability strategy, we continually aim to work Smarter. Faster. Greener.™

Our tonnes of CO2 emissions per employee and per £M turnover have been reduced since our baseline year based on our ongoing 3P sustainability strategy action plan, which will continue to be our focus for reducing CO2 emissions as we move towards our long-term ambition of being Net Zero.

Every year we get closer to our net zero goal while continuing to offset more carbon than the remaining balance.

What Does Carbon Negative Mean?

It means for every tonne of CO2 we emit as a company we remove an extra 10% of carbon from the environment, therefore emitting less than zero CO2 greenhouse gasses. Since it's impossible to emit a negative amount of carbon, to achieve carbon negative we have reduced our emissions in line with our ambition of being net zero, while offsetting the remaining balance.

Our Latest 2023 Carbon Report

Bryson Products Ltd measured our Carbon Footprint for the year ending 31st December 2023, location-based carbon footprint for the year was 177 tCO2e. The carbon footprint has been calculated for the Coulsdon Head Office, and Gatwick units and includes emissions from electricity, t&d losses, natural gas, water, fleet, business travel, waste, and paper.

Our total Co2 emissions decreased 27% from 2022 and 11% from our baseline year (2019), this was achieved through:

  • Lowering our direct (Scope 1) emissions by focusing on route optimisation. By utilising an industry-leading route planning tool we have reduced vehicle demand by 38% in 2023
  • We've introduced a new order consolidation approach and raised the minimum order value. This has allowed us to reduce our total delivery count while still meeting our customer service level agreements
  • The reduction in our scope 3 emissions has been achieved by obtaining goods that produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions and by collaborating with suppliers located domestically or in nearby regions

In order to become carbon negative we have offset 261 tCO2e, more carbon than we contribute to the environment.

Carbon Offsetting UK Construction Industry

What Is Carbon Offsetting?

Simply put, offsetting is to take carbon from the air or prevent carbon from being emitted through alternate practices and is measured in the form of carbon credits. Each credit is generally equal to 1 metric tonne of CO2. Offsetting provides a mechanism to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the most cost-effective and economically-efficient manner. Offsetting plays a vital role in combating climate change, but done in isolation it is not the ultimate solution.

To become carbon negative we have invested in a carbon offset project that includes carbon removal

Are Our Carbon Offsets Verified?

Yes. Working with our partner Carbon Footprint all carbon offset initiatives are supported by the international Verified Carbon Standard (VCS).

We have chosen to support local the tree planting in the UK to offset our carbon emissions. Through a ‘tree buddying’ initiative, for every tree planted in the UK, an additional tonne of carbon will be saved through the Pacajai REDD+ Project. This initiative is based in the Amazon rainforest, the largest remaining rainforest on our planet. This project is aimed at reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation and is expected to avoid over 22 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent gas emissions over a 40 year period.

We have planted over 200 trees in the UK to support biodiversity, local habitats and social benefits. All trees are native UK species that have been grown from UK seeds in UK nurseries. Tree planting occurs between October – April and our tree planting campaigns include planting trees in our local parks, support schools with tree donations and environmental education, as well as partnering with key customers to sponsor tree planting on construction projects.

As part of our Carbon Negative journey we have invested in a carbon offset project that includes carbon removal. We are offsetting our CO2 emissions by planting trees in the UK, which in turn is supported by an international Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) project called the Pacajai REDD+ Project helping to reduce deforestation in the Amazonian rainforest, Brazil.

What Does Carbon Negative Mean For You?

We're all working together to reduce our carbon footprint and achieve our green goals, all in line with the industry goal to be net zero by 2050. The construction industry has a big part to play being one of the largest contributors to CO2 emissions.

As a Carbon Negative supplier, your sustainability goals are in reach. We can help you reduce your scope 3 emissions. We can also work together to affect change in the wider supply chain, especially when it comes to reducing CO2 generated in product manufacturing and shipping, as well as stamping out single use plastic from products and their packaging.
